GB7EB - UPDATE was created by M0JGX
We now have (with the permission of Phoenix) GB7EB connected to TG840

I've removed Echolink at the moment but hope to have the bridge up again in the next few weeks.

I also experimented with XLX reflectors on S1 TG6. The audio was sometimes intermittent and stuttered, I was also monitoring XLX via GB7NB where the audio was fine. So we might come back to that... one day.

The NEW TG layout is.....

Slot 1
TG9 - Local (Echolink / Allstar once bridge is back up)
TG91 - BM World Wide
TG235 - BM UK Calling (TG235 is not really used on the BM network so in time might move to Phoenix TG235. See how we get on with TG840)

Slot2
TG9 - Brandmeister Reflector Sysetm (4400 by default)
TG840 - Phoenix East Anglia (It's a good idea to unlink (4000) the BM reflectors before using TG840 as there is a fair bit of traffic on BM 4400)

Answers to a few questions we've already received...

Will you be doing the same for GB7YL?
[/i]
No, at this stage GB7YL will be a purely Phoenix repeater.
GB7EB being a homebrew MMDVM has allowed us to do this, 7YL uses Motorola and would have to be modified and effectively become a MMDVM repeater.

Can you enable more / all Phoenix TG's
The repeater will remain a BM repeater with Phoenix TG840 for now.
We intend to do further testing and may add further Phoenix Talk Groups in the future.
I personally think it would be a mess if you tried to use all TG's on both networks. Try going back to someone on TG235..... Which 235!! or Answering a call on World Wide....again which one!
Also the repeater would constantly be keyed up and you'd only ever hear random parts of QSOs from which ever TG was first.

Can I roam on TG840?
You should be able to, we will be doing some test with 7YL, DS and EB with roaming but I can't see why it wouldn't work.
Beaconing is now enabled on GB7EB.

Can I use TG840 on EB to talk to someone on GB7DS
Yes! That is the whole point.

Can I use other Phoenix TG's or user activate Phoenix TG's
Not at the moment. Only TG840 will work, again this is something we're looking in to.
Phoenix TG840 is static on Slot 2, however we have now enabled all Phoenix 8** talkgroups as user activated on Slot 2.
Therefore you can use TG841, or even 850 to talk to someone in Scotland.

How do I use DMR+ / Phoenix Reflectors
You can't. DMR+ / Phoenix reflectors are not available and EB is not connected to DMR+
GB7EB is connected to the Phoenix network as a repeater via Phoenix-E (Repeaters), not via Phoenix-F (Dongles).

What about Echotest?
Echotest will remain Brandmeister. It is technically possible to have echotest on both networks, but don't really think it would be needed.

Any other questions.... Leave them below.

Further Questions Received...

Can you activate TG235* on Slot 1?
I assume this is regarding Phoenix TG235 as BM TG235 is already enabled.
I don't want to make this repeater confusing for visitors, so simplicity will be the winner!
We will see how TG840 goes first, however Phoenix TG235 was one of the TGs we have talked about adding. BM TG235 isn't really used and it would make an ideal swap, we just need to make sure this wouldn't saturate the repeater.

Can I still use TG2353?
Yes, TG2353 is available user activated via Slot 1 & Via 4403 on BM Reflectors, you will come out via the Brandmeister side.... Not that it really make a difference.

I'm not understanding these changes will you look at my radio / can you send me a codeplug?
The only change you need to worry about is adding TG840 on Slot 2. If you're not intending on using TG840 then you don't have to make any codeplug changes.

Richard G7RVH is in the process of updating his codeplugs http://g7rvh.com .

If you want to do it yourself then fire up the codeplug software go to Channel Information. Copy EB TG9 Slot 2. Once copied rename channel name to EB TG840 (OR something else useful). Make sure the Repeater Slot is still 2. Then go to Contact Name and select TG840 East.
Now click on Zone Information, then GB7EB Beccles. In available channels find EB TG840 (Or what ever you called it) and click on add.
Upload to your radio..

OR...... Download the one Richard's already done http://g7rvh.com . I stopped rolling my own codeplugs ages ago as Richard's are better, quicker and easier.

There seems to be some confusion how to Unlink (or change) the Brandmeister reflectors on Slot 2.

I'll be producing a youtube video with a quick demonstration.

In the meantime.

On the MD380 (or equivalent)

IMPORTANT First make sure No Local users are using the repeater

**If you use the latest G7RVH codeplug then you can simply go to BM Unlink and key up for 2 seconds**

Go to Local Slot 2
Enter the menu
Select Contacts
Scroll down to Manual Dial
Select Private Call
Enter 4000 using the keypad
Hold the PTT for 2 seconds DO NOT click any other button.

The repeater should come back to you and say "unlinked" the repeater will remained unlinked for 30 minutes.

If there is activity on the Slot you won't be able to unlink, hence it's preferred that you should leave a gap and have short overs. Unfortunately many (network) users don't, this makes it hard for anyone to change reflectors.

I am currently working on some control software for Group Members to login and unlink / link the repeater.

I've added a 60 second TG hang timer to make it easier to negotiate TG9 / TG840.

It seems to be working well.

Q. Can I use Brandmeister UK Chat (Ref4400) when someone else is using Phoenix TG840?

You lot like to give me head aches!!!!!

Ref4400 uses TG9 on Slot 2 and TG840 also uses slot 2 you can't have more than one talkgroup on a slot at a time.
So the simple answer it no.

However, there is a way round it. Ref4400 is also TG2350 on Slot 1 so you can user activate TG2350 and use slot 1 while the TG840 QSO continues on Slot 2.
Remember, you CAN NOT use Phoenix talkgroups on Slot 1 OR Brandmeister Talkgroups on Slot 2 (other than BM TG9 / Reflectors).

OK Complicated, but it works I tried it!
Having the 1 minute TG hold off timer also helps.
